When Triumph debuted the first of the TR range, in March 1953 at the Geneva Motor Show, I'm sure that they did not envisage that it would spawn a further six iterations and last almost thirty years.

Often referred to as 'the last of the hairy-chested British sports cars', the TR6, which was launched in 1969, bore a tremendous amount of DNA from that first car (the TR2) but it was now packaged in a very stylish, contemporary body, penned by the German coachbuilder, Karmann (the previous two models having been styled by the Italian, Carrozzeria Michelotti). It was powered by the same six-cylinder engine that debuted in its immediate predecessor, the TR5. With its fashionable 'Kam-tail', it became the best selling TR to date, with some 94,619 built. Two particularly desireable options were offered. A steel hardtop, which further accentuated the aggressively handsome lines (and provided true, year round driving comfort) and an electrically operated overdrive unit, which provided tremendous, low-rev cruising capability.

Being blessed with both these options, this example is rare indeed. Couple that with the fact that it is a lifelong Los Angeles car, complete with its original, blue California license plate, and it enters the 'hens teeth' realm. It has been extremely well maintained over its thirty-nine year/101,000 mile life and has no rust or accident damage. Paint, body, glass, chrome, tops & interior are all in very good shape and it drives phenomenally, truly demonstrating its famed, hirsute pectorals. Rounding out the already enticing package, are the original handbooks and tonneau cover.

Great to look at, a blast to drive and cheap to maintain, TR6s really are a superb entry level classic and to find one in this shape with these options, makes this a great opportunity to experience the thrill of classic car ownership.
