Increasingly strict US Federal automotive safety mandates forced Jaguar to make considerable changes to their original (Series I) E-Type, that they had launched to worldwide acclaim in 1961, thereby creating the Series II. However, this new model was not ready for full production by the time the US regulations came in to effect in 1968. Consequently they had to adapt the Series I to conform, in order to avoid a gap in sales. This adaptation became known as the Series 1 1/2. It was essentially the same as the earlier cars but featured open headlamps instead of the glass covers, rocker switches on the dash, in place of the toggles and different carburettors and emission controls on the engine.
This stunning example has had just one Los Angeles owner from new and is therefore, in great condition throughout and entirely devoid of rust and corrosion. Meticulously maintained throughout its life (with tens of thousands of dollars in receipts), it runs & drives beautifully. Though repainted and reupholstered almost twenty years ago, the paint and body are still in superb shape whilst the interior still looks like new. In addition to the service records, the car also comes with its original handbook, jack & hammer.
This is a truly excellent opportunity to join an elite group of classic car owners, by acquiring a superb example of the legendary E-Type, for an incredible price.
