What do Keith Richards and Charlton Heston have in common? Well, apart from a penchant for firearms ('Keef' has admitted to various gun-toting incidents in his less salubrious past and Heston was the five-term president of the National Rifle Association), they both owned E-Types! And they are not alone in that respect. In fact, a whole slew of celebrities visited their local Jaguar showrooms in the sixties and early seventies, in order to join the elite club of E-Type owners; so beguiling were its charms.

Far from diminishing over the years however, those charms have only strengthened, making the E-Type amongst the most recognizable and craved-after sports cars of all time. But, with a finite source and the ravages of time, finding good examples these days is becoming increasingly tough.

One of only 4,286 left-hand drive Series 2 2+2s built, this extremely handsome, matching numbers example has had just two doting owners from new (the last one since 1979) and has lived its entire life in Los Angeles. The super straight body is wonderfully free of corrosion or accident damage and has great shutlines. Finished in its striking and very rare factory colour combination of black with black leather, it is a real head turner. With a believed original mileage of 101,276, it is in very good condition throughout and drives beautifully, shifting smoothly through all the gears and steering and braking straight..

Though often overlooked, in favour of the Series 1, the Series 2 E-Types are arguably the most driveable and reliable of all three series. They have a more efficient cooling system than either of the others and so can handle warmer climes far better. This one doesn't even break a sweat in L.A. rush hour traffic (though its factory air-conditioning could probably stand a recharge!), so it's perfect for following in the tyre tracks of some of the other famous Hollywood E-Type owners!
